Ecology is a consistent thread that runs through many of my books about nature and wildlife. Individual kinds of animal are interesting, but it's equally interesting to get an impression of how different kinds of animals fit together in a natural ecosystem. And it ties directly and naturally to the subject of conservation.

Ecology and Ecosystems

Ecology is the study of the ways that organisms interact with each other and their environment. It's an insanely complicated topic, about which we probably know much less than we think we do.

Conservation of wild lands and wildlife

Since men first realized that the "wilderness" was vanishing over a century ago, there have been men and women who fought to protect what remained of the wild Earth for those who came after them. Parks, wildlife preserves, laws to reduce pollution, campaigns to save endangered species -- all are part of the larger effort to preserve and protect what remains of Earth's natural biosphere.
